How does chams work in Tarkov?

Hi! In a few Tarkov videos, I noticed that the player’s silhouette stands out in a bright color, even in a dark hallway. In the comments, people call this "chams." I don’t quite understand what this program changes. Does it change the model’s textures or rendering? Or does it add a separate layer on top of the image? Does it only work when the enemy is visible on the screen, or can the highlighting reveal them through cover? I’d like to understand the principle behind it because everything looks pretty unusual in the short clips.

It’s interesting to see how Chams differ from standard ESPs, which display a frame with distance and other data around the enemy. Does the color change provide additional information, or is it just a way to spot the silhouette more quickly? In the video, it’s difficult to discern which features are genuine and which might be edited in.

I used to be confused by these concepts as well when watching replays of firefights and trying to figure out how players could spot their opponents so quickly in dark areas. Simply put, camouflage alters the appearance of models by giving them contrasting colors, and some variants allow them to be seen through obstacles. Unlike ESP, which provides outlines and text labels, the main focus here is on silhouette visibility. While searching, I came across the "eft chams" page on the SMGCheats website, where you can read their description. Also, be aware that third-party modifications of this type may violate the game’s rules and put you at risk of having your account banned. Did you see this feature in someone’s video, or did you stumble upon it while reading about Tarkov?
