Mental capacity act

I am trying to buy myself a new ‘active’ wheelchair as my NHS wheelie is extremely Heavy and I struggle to get around in it unless it’s on a smooth flat surface like in a shop.
i Can afford it, but the manager of my home doesn’t understand the amount of pain I am in with that wheelchair so just because she disagrees with me that I need a lighter, better wheelie she has brought in the mental capacity act as I technically do not have capacity in certain areas, they have contacted my social worker, who is now making them give their opinion and look for cheaper chairs.

i honestly can’t believe they’re using the capacity act on me, they never even told me they were doing this and I was wondering for days why it had not been ordered as I had already been assessed.

i made this picture for everyone affected by the mental capacity act (read left side first, then right) the staff I had on at the time wrote the words for me (I coloured in)and gave me some words to use as she’s just as angry as I am,I’m going to get a lawyer involved if they say no to the chair,as I have more than got the spare money)I used water colour markers.

I’m so sorry. That is one of the most horrible, ableist things I’ve heard in a while. I do hope you don’t need to involve a lawyer, but it is absurd that you should need to justify your selection of mobility aids, or anything else, to anyone but yourself, especially as your finances are in a state where it makes perfect sense. Is there anything I can do to help?

Hi Professor worm, Cheers Thankyou!
I coudnt agree more,I find it insulting that they think I can’t make a basic yes/no decision, they will use the mental capacity act When it suits them.
