Welcome to the Pathway mentor course
Dear participants,
Thank you for registering to be a mentor on our Pathway mentoring programme. This is a great way to make a meaningful contribution to enable an autistic mentee to make a life changing step towards fulfilling employment,
The purpose of the programme is to help the mentee to set and to progress towards an appropriate personal goal that would contribute to their wellbeing, develop confidence and positive autism identity.
The programme will enable people diagnosed, self-identified or wondering if they might be autistic to conceptualise their autism, reframe their lived experiences, (re-)build a positive identity and improve wellbeing measured by PWI and in-depth interviews.
Key outcomes
- Receive individual support and problem solve – progress toward goals
- Growing in confidence
- Developing positive autism identity
- Feeling of belonging and social support
- Confidence to self-advocate
Soon you will be embarking on the mentor training with Dr Damian Milton, a leading autistic autism researcher and the mentoring expert Dr Susy Ridout. Damian will cover the subject of autism, while Susy will talk about being a mentor.
First we would like to cover some housekeeping.
- We are a not for profit group run by autistic volunteers. For this reason we would appreciate you responding to our communications promptly to minimise the admin workload. If you haven’t already done so, you could read about us here.
- You can contact us on
- toolup@ndsa.uk.
- rahel.berman@ndsa
- yasmin.bryant@ndsa
- The mentoring happens online via our forum or mutually agreed with the mentee videoconferencing tool, based on mentee’s preference. The forum will also be the main communication channel and the base for the support group, it is therefore important that you engage with it to become familiar with the functions and ease into expressing yourself online.
- Please go to the Mentor’s private forum (it can be found at the bottom of main forum and only visible to mentors), introduce yourself if you haven’t already done so and engage: https://ndsa.uk/forum/forums/Mentors_Corner/ .
- How to use the forum: https://ndsa.uk/forum/threads/how-to-use-the-site.29/
I hope you will enjoy the training,
With best wishes,
Marie Djela
